Canan Berber

Canan Berber was born in 1967 Merzifon, Turkey.
She developed an early interest in painting during her childhood which led her to be awarded with special prize by UNICEF Paintings of The World Children in 1977, India.
She studied her primary and secondary school in Ankara and completed her high school education in İzmir.
In 1987, she graduated from Izmir Ege University, Engineering Faculty-Department of Textile Technology.
She worked as a textile engineer for quite a while.
She moved to United Kingdom in 1993, took language classes and had education on modern art and design at London City Lit Institute.
Upon moving back to İstanbul, she wrote essays for magazines such as Şizofrengi and Ütopya.
Her book "Chikka Boo" was published in Istanbul, 1997.
She attended various workshops on painting, design, colors and ceramic of contemporary artists’ ateliers.
She stayed several times in the USA, California & New England between 1999-2002 and did some artworks.
Having founded the Artisterik Creating Club, she organized art projects and brought many artists together in the framework of the International Tunel Art Festival in 2003.
Since 2000, she has made several solo exhibitions and art shows in Turkey, Italia, England, Switzerland, Kiev, Russia (Kazan) and Paris.
In 2003, she made a series of exhibitions for the display case of world famous jewelry brand Adler in Geneva and London and her artworks such as Hittite Brides, Dervishes and Pomegranates, Apples attracted great interest.
Her paintings were displayed through exhibitions with Toprak Sanat Galerisi mainly in Istanbul and Bodrum years between 2006-2012.
UNICEF made cards from Canan Berber’s paintings and distributed them in 23 countries in 2015. 
In the same year, she has been awarded by Troy Culture and Art Award in the category of plastic arts.
She graduated from Istanbul University, Department of Philosophy in 2020.
Many of the artist’s artworks are in private collections in Turkey and around the World. 
She lives in Istanbul.
